If you’ve put a team together to work on an important project you may find that perhaps they’re not getting on quite as well as you’d hoped. Maybe it’s a little awkward, you may have some candidates who are lively and responsive, while others are a little shy in coming forward.
Team building activities are a great way of getting your team to bond, break the ice and get to know each other better. It’s also a perfect opportunity for you to get see your team’s strengths and weaknesses so you can see where their best skills lie.
There are various ways in which you can do this, and it will usually involve people working in teams which are then split into more than one and pitted against each other. This isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, especially for those who are more prone towards introversion and shyness, but it can and does work. Team building exercises may sound off-putting, but once people take part in it they tend to let their guard down and join in.
It’s a Knockout
There are some places that have revived the game of It’s a Knockout, a game famous for the Royal Family’s involvement in later series and was famous throughout the 70s. This is a game where getting involved means getting wet and dirty, and taking part in a number of loud, silly games which will in all likelihood means there’ll be water and quite possibly foam.
Human Knot Game
Another one for consideration is the uniquely named Human Knot, which is a game of 10 to 20 people standing in a circle facing each other and grabbing each other’s hands randomly, they then have to detangle themselves without letting go of their hands. Communication and teamwork are what it’s all about, so they’ll need to make sure they talk to each other to figure it all out.
A boot camp might sound a little too much like the armed forces, and that’s exactly who’s it’s run by, a bunch of ex-military who are more than happy to put your teams through their paces and really test them. They’ll get to learn how to escape and evade, some combat techniques and problem-solving.
